Photos from 1947–1948

The photos below show the football and hockey teams from the 1947–1948 season. Beryl Cushion (née Levett) features in the hockey teams herself and it can be seen that some of the players, her included, got promoted to the first team during the season.

Centre: Mr ELK Bruyneels, Robert McGill, Derek Root, John Oswald, Mr S Elengorn.
Front: Ted Robins, Neville Shaw.

Interesting to see at least three different designs of shirt and a truly classic pose from Mr Bruyneels. Batchelor, Fraser and Jay (see below) all appear in the the photo of the Prefects in 1950–1951 which suggests this could be quite a youthful team, at least compared to those of more recent years (in the 1970s on into the 1980s time there were year based teams for the first four years and the '1st Eleven' was made up from Sixth Formers and Fifth Years).

Clearly the above photo is minus at least one player as there are only ten and not a goalkeeper to be seen. Eric Jay wrote in to say that he was the goalkeeper and that the photo is also missing Bob Morley, who played inside-left. Eric sent in a photo of the 1948–1949 team to rectify this omission and that has been used to start a 1948–1949 page.
